After three years of turmoil, Britney Spears and her mother Lynne Spears are mending their mother-daughter relationship.

The pop star shared on Instagram that she had a visit from her “sweet mama” on Wednesday, their first encounter since she was released from her conservatorship in 2021.

“My sweet mama showed up at my doorstep yesterday after 3 years, it’s been such a long time. With family there’s always things that need to be worked out but time heals all wounds! And after being able to communicate what I’ve held in for an extremely long time, I feel so blessed we were able to try to make things right. I’m so blessed we can have coffee together after 14 years !!! Let’s go shopping afterwards.” Spears wrote.

Spears has been outspoken about having disagreements with different family members, notably her sister Jamie Lynn Spears and her father Jamie Spears, who served as the singer’s conservator and had a contentious social media discussion with the singer in 2022.

Before the pop star’s conservatorship expired, Spears’ mother petitioned to have the estate pay the almost $650,000 in legal costs for the attorneys Lynne Spears retained in 2019 after she started to worry about her daughter’s welfare. Later, she discarded the petition.

Spears revealed in an Instagram post from September that she and her family are at odds, claiming that they “have no consciousness whatsoever” and have consistently denied any wrongdoing. Lynne Spears apologized and pleaded for communication to resume in response to her daughter’s tweet, as per USA Today.

Her mother did not attend Spears and Sam Asghari’s wedding, which took place seven months after the conservatorship ended, but she did leave a message for the happy couple under some of the wedding images.

“I am soooo happy for you! I love you!,” the mother of three wrote.

Over the years, Britney has also accused Lynne of allowing her father, Jamie Spears, to establish a “abusive” conservatorship over her, adding that her mother appeared to be aware of her impending hospitalization prior to the guardianship’s formalization in February 2008.

For her part, Lynne has remained steadfast in her belief that she always attempted to “do her best” for her daughter, saying on Instagram in August 2022, “I have never and will never turn my back on you!”
