Iconic Emmy and Tony award-winning actor Cicely Tyson died on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96.

“I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing. Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree,” her manager, Larry Thompson, said in a statement. The cause of death was, however, not known.

The iconic actor, whose memoir ‘Just As I Am’ was published on Tuesday, is best known for movies such as ‘Odds Against Tomorrow’ and ‘Sounder,’ for which she received an Oscar nomination for best actress.
