‘The Late Late Show’ host James Corden definitely wasn’t feeling the need for speed, but joined Tom Cruise on the highway to the danger zone in the latest episode, as ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ is poised to hit the screens.

Four years after Cruise convinced Corden to jump out of a plane, the actor and the talk show host got into one. Cruise picked up Corden taking him to a desert, where the two took a vintage fighter plane on a spin.

Cruise explains how the safety works to a visibly worried Corden, who’d initially attempted to flee the entire situation. Facing the cameras, the 59-year-old actor remarked “I’m very excited that James is doing this. Was he the first late-night show I asked? Hell, no. He was just the first one… the only one who said yes.”

The British comedian looks concerned when Cruise explains his plan to invert the plane if the engine stops, allowing Corden to exit. When they take to the skies, Corden asks for wifi and wants to use the loo, both of which are turned down. He jokingly held up a “Help Me” sign too, which Cruise took away.

Soon, the two were engaged in a dogfight, with Corden trying to spot the enemy plane as Cruise pulled some cool manoeuvres.

Just as the talk show host thought he’d escaped, Cruise informs him that the two are about to go flying the next day in a plane capable of modern aerial combat.

The actor has to talk Corden into it, telling him that he’s Goose – referring to the wingman in ‘Top Gun‘, who flew with Cruise’s Maverick. Corden is initially hyped, and refers to singing “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling” in a nightclub with Cruise, before realizing the fate Goose meets in ‘Top Gun’.

The comedian replies “When you say I am your Goose, it makes me feel excited and then I realize that Goose dies at the end of the film”.

There are snippets referring to the movie, like Corden spinning a volleyball on his fingertip, and Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” playing during an overnight campfire with Cruise.

After the second day’s flight, which is just as exhilarating, and leads Corden to exclaim “This is crazy”, the segment ends with Cruise delivering Val Kimler-portrayed Iceman’s iconic line “You can be my wingman, anytime”, to which Corden replies “You know what? I think I’m good”.
