Justin Roiland, co-creator of the animated comedy series Rick and Morty, had been charged with felony domestic violence in Orange County, California, in connection with a 2020 incident, according to a criminal complaint filed in May 2020 by the Orange County District Attorney. Roiland appeared in court on Thursday for a pre-trial hearing. He pleaded not guilty in 2020.
He was arrested and charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace violence, fraud, or deceit, according to an NBC News report.

Career
Roiland is an animator, director, producer, voice actor, and writer, who started his career in the early years of the new millennium. He rose to fame for being the co-creator of the Adult Swim series Rick and Morty, where he voices some of the titular characters. He won two prestigious Primetime Emmy Awards for the series. He is also the creator of some other well-known series including Solar Opposites, Adventure Time, and Gravity Falls.

The Emmy winner spent most of the early 2000s working for various television productions. He moved to Houston, Texas, where he joined Channel 101, a media collective created by Rob Schrab and Dan Harmon.

On August 25, 2016, he launched the virtual reality studio Squanchetendo. It was later renamed Squanch Games. On Halloween of 2022, Roiland released a generative NFT project named “Art Gobblers” with Paradigm Ventures.
