Karan Johar is back in the director’s seat after seven years for the upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The veteran director announced the big news via an Instagram post on Friday which also revealed that the film will it the theatres on April 28, 2023. The film will star Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in lead roles.
“After 7 years, it’s time for me to return to my first home – cinemas,” Karan Johar said in the statement. “I had the absolute honour of working with not one, but many illustrious actors on the set of my 7th film. The familial nostalgic feeling of an ensemble cast, creating music that captivates the hearts and a story that runs deep to the roots of our family traditions.”

Along with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the film will also star Jaya Bacchan and Shabana Azmi in supporting roles. The film has been written by Gogo Roy and Ishita Moitra. It will be produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and distributed by Viacom 18 studios.
Judging from Karan Johar’s Instagram post about the film, it seems that it will be a family drama full of emotions and heartwarming feelings. Ending the announcement, Johar said: “It’s that time of the year again – to huddle with your family and friends, buy the popcorn and witness just sheer love and entertainment unfold on the big screen. We’re overwhelmed and impatiently excited to finally inform…”

The last time Karan Johar directed a film was in 2016 with Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starer Ae Dil Hai Muskil. Made on a budget of only Rs. 70 crores, the film worked well for the director earning him Rs. 239.67 crores at the box office.
