Katy Perry’s latest music video “Electric” is out, and it features an endearing coming-of-age story about growing with her best friend, the Pokemon character, Pikachu. It shows the American singer in her young age with Pichu, little baby Pikachu, struggling early to make a mark in her career, while the latest version of Perry and Pikachu watching on from the sidelines.

As strange as the crossover may seem, the song is all part of Pokemon’s music-themed 25th anniversary celebration. The video was released on Friday on YouTube. Perry spoke about the song and said that working for the song took her own back to younger days.  “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated”, reported NME.

The album and the team told earlier in the year that Post Malone would be contributing to the album with a rendition of Hootie & The Blowfish’s ‘Only Wanna Be With You’.

Perry added, “The song’s theme, resilience, igniting your inner light, have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. “Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness”, reported NME.
