Within the State of Telangana, in the village of Palampet, 200 kilometres northeast of Hyderabad, sits Rudreshwara, also known as Ramappa Temple. A walled complex with multiple Shiva temples was constructed during the Kakatiyan era (1123–1323 CE) by kings Rudradeva and Recharla Rudra. The sandstone temple’s construction is thought to have lasted for about 40 years, starting in 1213 CE. The temple is named after the sculptor Ramappa, who built it, making it the only temple in India to be named after its craftsman.
