Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and also the largest city of the country. It is also the most populous city of North America. One of the 32 federal entities of the country, it is one of the most significant political, educational, cultural and financial centers of the world. Mexico city is located in the valley of Mexico. It is the country’s Federal District. It is the city’s metropolitan area which includes and goes beyond Federal District. It is referred to as México in Nahuatl and Ciudad de México in Spanish.

As a consequence of this continuous exploitation, the city started sinking, as the aquifer is being depleted to a greater extent than it’s being replenished, and the clay sheets on which Mexico City is constructed are compressing and cracking.
A spectacular mixture of ancient and modern art are essential elements of the cultural life of Mexico City. Pre-Hispanic ruins are visible even today throughout the city, along with colonial Spanish, 19th-century Mexican, and modern buildings. In 1987 the historic center of Mexico City earned the honor of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
