‘Kimye’ is officially over. After six and a half years of marriage, Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West has filed for divorce Friday from rapper Kanye West, US media reported, following months of rumours that the relationship was on the rocks.

Kardashian’s lawyer Laura Wasser filed papers confirming a split first rumoured back in January, when the mega-celebrity couple were reported to be living separately, Fox News said.

However, the filing was not immediately available.

Hollywood trade publication Variety cited court sources confirming the filing Friday, while celebrity gossip site TMZ — which broke the news — said the separation was “as amicable as a divorce can be.”

The couple has four young children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm and according to TMZ, Kim is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the kids.

The ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star and hip-hop music producer began dating in April 2012. At the time, Kardashian was still legally married to Kris Humphries, from whom she split after only 72 days of marriage. Her divorce was finalized in June 2013.

Kardashian and the Grammy winner tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy, in May 2014.

It was the first marriage for the 43-year-old West, and the third for the 40-year-old Kardashian.

In July last year, the mercurial entertainment mogul launched a bid for the US presidency with a rambling speech during which he revealed he had wanted to abort his daughter, and broke down in tears.

He also posted a series of tweets, later deleted, that accused his wife and mother-in-law of trying to lock him up, and suggested he was seeking a divorce.

Kardashian called on the media and public to show “compassion and empathy” following her husband’s erratic behaviour.
