Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York selects the theme of its latest exhibition. The event is attended by the biggest names in the fashion industry and the most glamorous stars in Hollywood. The event is managed by Vogue legend Anna Wintour, which picks the guest list.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the 2023 Met Gala theme would be a tribute to the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. However, some fashion lovers are under the impression that the theme is “Looting and Plunder.”

The theme for the 2023 Met Gala hasn’t changed and what you may be seeing about the theme changing to “Looting and Plunder,” is an April Fool’s Day prank.

In an article published on April 1, the outlet that started the rumor stated that it was a satirical piece written for April Fools.

By creating fictitious outfit choices, the magazine cleverly teased readers into thinking we would actually see them at the MET.

The prank stated Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) would wear a white dress with the words “Museums Are Not Neutral” written across it in red color. The dress takes inspiration from the one AOC wore to the MET GALA in 2021. For the theme “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion”, AOC donned a white dress with “Tax The Rich” written across it in red.
