Netflix has launched Next in Fashion season two, a new reality competition show in which up-and-coming fashion designers vie for a grand prize of $200,000 and a chance to debut their creations on Rent the Runway’s e-commerce platform.

This season is hosted and judged by Tan France of Queer Eye and supermodel Gigi Hadid, alongside a guest panel that includes Vogue contributing editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Donatella Versace, Emma Chamberlain, and Bella Hadid. Each episode features the designers taking on a themed challenge, such as creating a Met Gala-worthy ballgown or designing a transformation outfit that could be featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

After several rounds, the 12 original contestants were narrowed down to the final three: Bao Tranchi, Deontré Hancock, and Nigel Xavier. These finalists had to showcase a collection of eight looks on the final runway within three days with the assistance of experienced sewers. Nigel emerged as the winner with his Woodstock-inspired collection and impressive showstopper, which earned him the title of Next in Fashion.

Who is Nigel Xavier?

Since his big win, Nigel Xavier has been busy with various projects. He will reportedly host a Culture + Diversity panel with three of his Next in Fashion co-stars, Denotré, Desyrée Nicole, and Amari Carter. Additionally, he has exhibited his work at CultureCon in New York City, a conference for diverse creatives and young professionals, and has had some of his clothing featured in GQ Magazine.

In an interview with Tudum, Nigel discussed his plans for the future, saying that he hopes to take his clothing to a mass-market level. He sees himself more as an artist than a fashion designer and wants to leave a legacy. Although he gets bored easily, he aims to focus on growing his business while maintaining his creative vision. Nigel’s style is known for its unique patchwork and textile manipulation, drawing inspiration from 90s and early 2000s fashion and the music industry.

Winning Next in Fashion is expected to propel Nigel’s career to new heights, as evidenced by his increase in Instagram followers from 16k to 131k. He has already designed for several musical clients, including 2 Chainz. Nigel attributes his versatility and open-mindedness to his experiences with various cultures. His most prized creation is a pair of oversized patchwork denim jeans that can accommodate up to six people.
