Cary Joji Fukunaga
recently had the spotlight on him, as the director who helmed Daniel Craig’s
last James Bond movie, ‘No Time to Die’. While this film marked the end of
Craig’s stint
as the world-renowned British spy, with a flair for one-liners
and a love for vodka martinis, it might have opened the door for Fukunaga to work
on the franchise further. Barbara Broccoli, who owns the franchise, was all
praises.

She mentioned how much
everyone loved working with Cary, and how the 007 franchise would be glad to
have the director back. There are no doubts in her mind that he did an
exceptional job, but Broccoli is not sure if Cary would be on board for another
project. According to her, he came on to this Bond film, viewing it as a
challenge, and has managed to pull it off. Since ‘No Time to Die’ performed
well in theatres, Broccoli is clearly happy with the collaboration.

The feeling is mutual
too, since Cary has spoken highly of her as well. He elaborated on the brainstorming
sessions, which Broccoli effortlessly conducted, while remaining extremely hospitable
to everyone involved. According to Cary, Broccoli would ensure that there was
tea, coffee, and food for everyone, while simultaneously dealing with 17 ideas pertaining
to the Bond film. While the director found the level of creative involvement on
Broccoli’s part to be unusual, compared to his other projects, he made room for
it since the Bond franchise is figuratively her baby at this point.

Despite the praises
all around, the question remains whether Cary will give the nod to more Bond
films. Currently, the ‘Beasts of No Nation’ director has not given an answer either
way, but he is working on a miniseries for Apple TV+, titled ‘Masters of the
Air’. It stars Barry Keoghan, known for roles in ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘The Killing of
a Sacred Deer’.
