The nominations for the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, July 12 in Los Angeles. This year’s nominations will be hosted by Melissa Fumero and JB Smoove.

There has been more television this year than the ordinary individual could reasonably watch, as is customary in the streaming era, but there are some definite front-runners.

Abbott Elementary, a rookie comedy that has received both acclaim from critics and a devoted following, is likely to appear in several of the major categories.

Along with other buzzy favourites like ‘Squid Game’, ‘Yellowjackets’, and ‘Severance’, returning sensation ‘Succession’ is a foregone conclusion.

Jean Smart, who won best comedy actress for ‘Hacks’ last year, is back in the running, as is the series, with ‘Ted Lasso’ star Jason Sudeikis hoping to repeat his 2021 comedy actor win. Bill Hader is vying for a third award in the category for his performance in ‘Barry.’

‘The Crown,’ which dominated the 2021 drama awards, was not televised during the eligibility period and is therefore not eligible this year.

This year’s ballots are sure to be filled with strong contenders in every category in an increasingly crowded field.

The Emmys do not yet have a host, though Chris Rock was rumoured to be approached for the role. The Emmy’s will take place on September 12, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET. NBC will broadcast the ceremony.
