Sania Mirza and
Shoaib Malik, an unlikely pairing of some of South Asia’s biggest sports stars,
was expected to end in divorce, news reports say. But the promo of a reality
show has confused the mongers of private stories from people’s personal lives.
While the media was buzzing with news of divorce, Urduflix, an OTT platform,
announced a new reality show called The Mirza-Malik Show, where Shoaib and
Sania are set to appear together.

The promo still
features Shoaib with Sania’s hands on his shoulders, and the ad reads the show
will be on Urduflix soon.

Social media was
left confused with this development. Sania and Shoaib’s divorce was expected to
go through soon. While the couple has remained tight-lipped about their personal
situation, there were rumours that Sania and Shoaib were living separately
co-parenting their son Izhaan Mirza Malik . Malik is rumoured to be in a relationship with Ayesha
Omar, a Pakistani model and actor.

Geo News, a
Pakistan-based news outlet, reported that the couple was not making the split
official because they were signed on to various TV shows and had other media
engagements.

Shoaib Malik has
played cricket for Pakistan for nearly two decades and Sania Mirza is one of
the faces of Indian tennis all over the world.

Their marriage in
2010 made headlines all over the world because the marriage of two leading
figures from rival nations – India and Pakistan – was an unlikely affair.

Questioned about
marrying an Indian, Shoaib Malik had once said, “In a marriage, you don’t
concern yourself with where your partner is or from what is going on between
the countries or in politics. If you love someone and get married to that
person that should be all that matters, regardless of which country you come
from.”

Sania and Shoaib
were caught up in their home nations during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time
Sania told The Indian Express: “It has not been easy for me to stay away from
Shoaib, and especially for Izhaan to stay away from his father. I am looking
forward to being back as family again in one place.”
