Sex/Life was canceled by Netflix only after 2 seasons of the show, breaking the hearts of a number of fans who loved the show. After the show was canceled, actress Sarah Shahi, who plays the lead in the show, revealed that she did not feel enough “support” from Netflix during Season 2, which was released in March this year. As a result, she will not be working with the streaming platform anymore in the future.

Sex/Life canceled after season 2

The main plot of the show follows the character of Billie Connelly, an ex-Columbia University psychology Ph.D. candidate-turned-mother-of-two. She chose to become a housewife in a posh suburban Connecticut community. The show follows her midlife crisis when she begins having an affair with her ex-boyfriend, Brad.

Netflix announced that although the streamer was quite content with the work done by the show’s producers, cast, and crew, it had chosen not to renew it for season 3. Season 2 of the show ended with a happy ending for all the primary characters of the show. Billie reunited with her ex Brad at the end of Season 2 and the couple got married on the beach. Billie even announced that she was expecting a baby with Brad before they took their vows.

However, the showrunners maintained that they still had unexplored storylines that they wished to tell to their viewers in the future. Showrunner Stacy Rukeyser claimed that the final episode of season 2 was not meant to be the series finale.

“The episode was never intended to be a series finale, that’s for sure. I know there are always more stories to tell with these characters in the Sex/Life universe, and I hope we get the chance to tell those stories. It was important that we get to a meaningful place with each character this season,” she said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Why Sarah Shahi vows never to work with Netflix

In a podcast called Not Skinny But Not Fat, Shahi revealed that she did not receive the kind of support in season two from Netflix that she did in season one of Sex/Life. “It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that,” she mentioned.

She then listed the issues she felt she faced in the latest season of the show and why she does not want to work with Netflix in the future. “I struggled with the material. … I mean, I’m never going to work for Netflix again now after saying all this. I just can’t lie. I think that’s what made Brad and Billie so popular was because people really felt the real sparks between us,” she added, calling some of the storylines of season two ‘gimmicky.’
