Irrfan Khan’s son Babil is the recent name who came out in support of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, accused of sexual assault by an actor named Payal Ghosh.
In an Instagram post, Babil said that “It’s a shame that an invaluable movement like the #metoo is misused in such a malignant manner against a person that has actually inspired equality in an excruciatingly patriarchal industry.”
“We now live in this strange age where it is easier to create a truth, and not manifest the truth. I pray that we evolve. The concern is that the metastasis of baseless accusations through the #metoo movement would ultimately diminish its credibility and women that genuinely need its support would be left in the dark, it is painful,” he added.
Babil also clarified in the caption that if Payal is proved right, he “will take responsibility”.
“Chin up, Anurag sir. I know you all are gonna hate me for this but I’ve got to stand up when something feels wrong. What if the girl is right? Well then, it would break my heart to see that someone who I consider a great man was just a false conception, I am hanging on to my judgment, I will take responsibility if I’m wrong,” he said in the caption.
On Saturday, the 30-year-old Payal tweeted, “@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Please help!”
In an interview with ANI on Sunday, she said that Kashyap made her feel uncomfortable when she went to meet him for the second time.
However, Kashyap has released a press statement through his lawyer Priyanka Khimani on the accusations. The statement says that all of the allegations against him are false and that he will pursue the case through legal means.
