Those who love 90s
music will definitely remember Indi-pop singer Anamika as her name was
synonymous with chart-topping numbers that became instant party hits. The voice
behind catchy songs like ‘Kaaala sha kaala’, ‘Nindra’, ‘Aaja Aaja’, and ‘Kahi karta
hoga intezaar’ is now back with her new song ‘Ferrareee’ that has been
released on Friday at PVR Director’s Cut, New Delhi.

When asked about her reason of staying away from limelight for so many years, she told
Opoyi that there is no reason for anything in life.

“I hate reasons and I don’t think there is any reason anybody should have. We
all have reasons and we don’t have to actually worry about them. I think when
you see  the right time for right things,  it happens so I believe in
a lovely universe
who is showering  the blessings. Whenever the
time is right and you come,” she said.

She also says that In India, taking a break is such a cliché question.

“There are so many people who take a break. In India, it’s a very cliché
question that everybody asks that you are taking a break but when you go to the
western world look at Gloria Estefan and other big artists.

“They take years
and years of break and they just come back with one collaboration and they make
a huge hit. Look at Jennifer Lopez, she took a break and went into films but
look at her, she just came back with songs again. I am a huge fan of JLO and I
hope she hears it one day. I follow her energy, the positivity, and the
go-getter personality,” she said.

Anamika released her first album in 1996 titled ‘Catwalk’, which instantly got her
to fame in the newly picking up ‘Indipop’ industry.

She was also nominated for
the Channel V awards category for Best Album, Best female pop singer, and Best
video that year.

She has given some of the coolest chartbusters that are still fresh in people’s
minds but Anamika doesn’t believe in walking down the memory lane to
remember her tracks.

“The songs are still fresh. ‘Kala sa Kala’ is played
at every wedding and my friends send me a video showing that they are dancing
on that. All these songs are still played and they are the greatest memories of
my life. I still cherish them and I will always continue to cherish them,” she
said.

However, there is one thing that she want to add

“From memory lane till now what has changed is only me
being more brave…because I used to shy away from the camera, I used to shy away from the
media. People used to call me for interviews and I used to say no. My songs
were popular so I never felt the need of going anywhere but today digital is so
strong,” she said.

“I had told myself that I don’t want to be on social media but
then my other side of the brain says that never say never and then when I
thought of Ferrareee, I started going and seeing people.

“The social media was
really hyped up and that’s why I joined social media very recently but the love
and the support I have received from fans is just tremendously amazing,” she
added.

The music industry has changed over the years so did it change for good
or bad for her?

“That’s a tricky question. The music scene has changed some for good and some
for not so good but altogether music is music. I always look at music as music.
I don’t believe in what is good and what is bad. Everybody has the right to do
what they want to do and to sing what they want so we can’t call somebody bad
or good. So I think music is good. It’s just how people perceive you,” she
said.

Taking pride in contributing to reshaping the Indian music industry, Anamika says
that she also plans to re-release some of her old classics.

“I am doing that myself.  I just got right-backs for all my music and you
will not find that on the media right now because it’s all taken off.  It
was an injustice done to me because I was not paid off and now that we have got
it back, we are going all out with my catalog. Some of the songs we are
collaborating with big singers, big in the sense of co-star and some we are re-releasing so you will see a lot of music coming from me,” she said.
