Renowned singer Selena Gomez, in a new post on Instagram, is showing her surgery scar, proudly, three years after she underwent a transplant to receive a kidney from her best friend.

The 28-year-old singer in 2017 had said that underwent a kidney transplant from actor Francia Raisa, her close friend, as she was battling with lupus.

In her post on Instagram, Gomez flaunts her transplant while wearing a blue swimsuit, and writes, “When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.”

She adds, “Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through…and I’m proud of that.”

Gomez has revealed in 2015 that she was suffering from lupus, a chronic disease that can affect any part of the body, mainly the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. In this situation, the immune system of the body, instead of creating antibodies, it creates autoantibodies that attack the healthy cells.

The singer has talked about her struggles with the disease, and had previously said the transplant was “what I needed to do for my overall health.”
