Dev Patel put his life in danger while attempting to break up a knife fight between a man and a woman in his hometown of Adelaide, South Australia.

The incident occurred as the British actor and his friends entered a convenience store during a night out in the city, according to his management.

Patel attempted to break up the fight, which resulted in a man being stabbed in the chest.

The incident occurred when Patel and his friends were on a night out on August 1.

A man was stabbed in the chest while fighting with a woman on the street near the store. Patel “acted on his natural instinct,” according to a spokesperson for the actor.

“The group was thankfully successful in doing so, and they remained on site to ensure that the police and, eventually, the ambulance arrived,” an Australian 7News spokesperson said.

The injured man, 32, was taken to a nearby hospital; his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

According to The Telegraph, the woman who was present at the scene was later arrested.

According to South Australian Police, they were called around 8.45 p.m. (local time) after reports of a man and a woman fighting on the street.

According to the BBC, people in the area attempted to separate the couple, but the woman stabbed the man in the chest. Fans praised the actor for intervening in a “risky” situation.

The actor, who has appeared in films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Hotel Mumbai, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, currently resides in Adelaide with his girlfriend Tilda Cobham-Hervey.

The 32-year-old is preparing to release Monkey Man, which he wrote, produced, and directed.
