‘South Park’ is back on Comedy Central from February 2, for its 25th season. There will be six episodes, coming out weekly. Fans can take a trip down memory lane to the titular town as they enjoy the weekly adventures of Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, and Kyle Broflovski. 

The series satirizes various aspects of American society and global events, with a libertarian outlook. Like most shows, work on ‘South Park’ stopped when the world was hit by the coronavirus pandemic. However, co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to come out with hour-long episodes titled ‘The Pandemic Special’, and ‘South ParQ Vaccination Special’, which premiered on September 30, 2020, and March 10, 2021, respectively.

The pandemic specials show the fan-favourite characters all grown up, since the time we see them last on the show. It tackles anti-vaxxer stances and the search for a possible cure to the coronavirus, which might lie in Tegridy weed farms.

Apart from that ‘South Park’ has taken swipes at everyone from Donald Trump’s presidential election to Elon Musk’s SpaceX project. It has also tackled controversial issues like separate washrooms, beyond the gender binary. When the new season releases, fans will expect more of the rapier wit which led to the only African-American character to be named Token, literally referring to the tokenism in including people of colour in the narrative.

Both Parker and Stone signed a new deal in August 2020, which will see ‘South Park’ run through Season 30. Further, Stone and Parker are teaming up with Kendrick Lamar, the popular rapper, for a Paramount Pictures feature film. 

The live-action comedy will “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man, who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”

Parker and Stone are also the creative brains behind the 1999 Oscar-nominated film, ‘South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut’. Other popular works include ‘Team America: World Police’, and the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical ‘Book of Mormon’.
