Actress Suzanne Shepherd, who gained notoriety for her portrayals of maternal characters in shows like The Sopranos and Goodfellas, has died at 89. 

Her representative confirmed the news of her death and affirmed that she quietly passed away early on Friday morning in her New York City home. 

Notably, Shepherd played the mother of Lorraine Bracco’s character Karen Hill in Goodfellas and Mary DeAngelis, the mother of Edie Falco’s Carmela Soprano, in 20 episodes of The Sopranos.
