Bhushan Kumar, the managing director of music company T-Series, has been accused of rape by a 30-year-old woman. A case has been filed at DN Nagar Police station. A probe is underway and no arrests have been made till now, ANI reported, quoting police.
The 30-year-old woman alleged that she was raped on the pretext of giving her a role in one of his upcoming projects.
“As per the complaint, Bhushan Kumar allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of providing a job to her in some projects of his own company,” a police officer told PTI.
“The woman said she was cheated by him and hence she approached the police,” he added.
Kumar has been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation).
Bhushan was born to the founder of T-Series, Gulshan Kumar and his wife Sudesh Kumari Dua. He took over T-Series at the age of 19 in 1997 following his father’s murder. He produced ‘Tum Bin’ in 2011. He went on to produce several films like ‘Tum Bin’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Patiala House.’
He is married to actor Divya Khosla and they have son named Ruhaan Kumar.
This is not the first time the producer has been accused of sexual harassment. During India’s #MeToo movement in 2018, an actress-model had accused him of harassment. She, however, backed out later.
He was also in news last year after singer Sonu Nigam targeted him with furious videos, in which he accused him of being the ‘music mafia’ of the industry.
“Bhushan Kumar, now I’ll have to take your name. You’ve messed with the wrong person. You have forgotten the time when you used to come to my house and plead: ‘brother, please do ‘Deewana’ album for me, introduce me to Smita Thackeray, Bal Thackeray, save me from Abu Salem,” Nigam had said in one of the videos.
“Do you remember asking me to save you from Abu Salem when he was abusing you? I’m warning you to not engage with me at all,” the singer said.
