Surekha Sikri, a three-time National Film Award winner, star of Indian soap operas, and Hindi theatre veteran, died on Friday morning following a cardiac arrest. She was 75.

She had suffered a brain stroke in September last year and was discharged after a few days. Her agent said the actor had been suffering from complications arising from the stroke, reports PTI.
She was undoubtedly one of the finest actors and her long and impressive filmography is a testimony of that. Here are some of the roles which clearly show how smoothly and effortlessly she played all her roles.

1988 film ‘Tamas’
She won her First National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rajo in the film. The movie was based on Bhisham Sahni’s novel and shows the heart-wrenching effects on people during the partition.
1994 film ‘Mammo’
This movie was the first part of the Muslim trilogy whose director was Shyam Benegal, the movie made Surekha Sikri win her second National Film Award. Her role as Fayyuzi, who was the protagonist’s legal guardian, was highly appreciated. Her role and character had a perfect balance of warmth and emotions.
1989 film ‘Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro’
The movie explores the effects of Hindutva extremism on minor communities. The movie won two national film awards and Surekha’s performance was equally appreciated.
2001 film ‘Zubeidaa’
The final part of Shyam Benegal’s trilogy, made Surekha repeat her role as Fayyuzi in ‘Zubeida’. With her performance in the film, she proved again how finely she is seasoned with acting skills.
2018 film ‘Badhaai Ho’
One of the most loved films of 2018 was Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Surekha Sikri starrer ‘Badhaai Ho’. Surekha Sikri won her third national film award for her role as Amma in the movie.
