Lindsay Lohan was one of the sought-after child stars in the ’90s and early ’00s when she got her breakthrough role as both Hallie and Annie in ‘The Parent Trap’. She, then, went on to star in some of the most influential teen movies like ‘Freaky Friday’, ‘Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen’, and ‘Mean Girls’. Soon, she became a teen idol for many.

But with success comes scandals and she encountered many in her life. The after-effects of some of them were so harsh that she decided to take a break from acting and lead a life away from the media glare. Let’s take a look at the rise, fall, and resurgence of Lindsay Lohan.

Big break with ‘The Parent Trap’

She faced the spotlight when she was three and this includes 100 print ads, which eventually helped her land the dual role of twin sisters in Disney’s 1998 remake of ‘The Parent Trap’.

After the success of this film, she went on doing more Disney films, including 2003’s ‘Freaky Friday’ and 2004’s ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’, and later a non-Disney film ‘Mean Girls’. She returned to Disney in 2005 to star in ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded’, and then she launched her music career.

Tabloids favourite

As her celebrity status grew, Lohan started spending more time at New York nightclubs, and “her lifestyle became the subject of tabloid fodder, with issues ranging from her father’s prison scandals to rumors of her own struggles with bulimia.”

According to media reports and quoted by showbiz cheatsheet, she was arrested twice in 2007 for the possession of small amounts of cocaine, but each time was only charged with two counts of driving under the influence and a single count of reckless driving. The same year, she spent three stints in rehab.

The star told People in December 2016 that “I was going out too much, and I knew that, and I have more to live for than that.”

TV appearances

She appeared as a guest star on ‘Ugly Betty’ in 2008. However, the six-episode appearance was cut short after Lohan argued with the show’s star, America Ferrera, on set, reports Fox news.

In 2009, she appeared in the film ‘Labor Pains’, and in 2012 she starred as Elizabeth Taylor in the made-for-TV movie ‘Liz & Dick’.

Her time away from Hollywood

After she turned 30, Lohan started spending more time at her home in Dubai, and mostly stayed out of the spotlight. In 2018, she revealed to The New York Times that she had opened a Lohan Beach House club in Mykonos and had plans for another club in Rhodes.

Her appeal to media, fans

“I’m a normal, nice person. A good person. I don’t have any bad intentions. And my past has to stay in the past,” she told The New York Times in one of her interviews.

Lohan continued, “People have to just let go of it and stop bringing it up because it’s not — it’s gone. It’s dead. And that’s the most important thing to me.”
