Twitter on Tuesday, released the “Twitter from Home” trend report which revealed data around what people in the US have been “listening to, watching, eating, and doing to stay connected and entertained” in the past six months.
Here are the key highlights:
- As conversations on Twitter shifted towards the novel coronavirus and our means of dealing with its spread, the microbe emoji saw a 1662% increase in use
- The selfie decreased by 32% vs. 2019 as Outfit Of The Day (#OOTD) got a makeunder.

- Political issues also shaped emoji use. use of the mailbox emoji increased by 529%, owing to the concerns around mail-in ballots
- The haircut emoji went down by 32% but the bearded person emoji went up by 102% as people ditched shaving to go natural
- The yoga/meditation emoji grew 161% from 2019. Knitting became cool again with the yarn emoji growing 67%
- Most tweeted about movies/TV: Black Panther, Spongebob SquarePants, The Simpsons, The Last Dance, and Mulan
