The
nominations for one of the most prestigious awards in the world of drama and television,
Golden Globe 2021, were announced earlier this month and while the picks for many
categories failed to impress the audience desperately waiting for the list to
be released, one category totally ruled the trend and it was Best picture–
Drama. The nominations for this year’s best film category are ‘The Father’, ‘Mank’, ‘Nomadland’, ‘Promising Young woman’ and ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7.’

The Father

With as many as four
Golden Globe nominations this year, The Father is the story of a father who is
struggling with dementia and trying to accept this new reality of his life. The
film features Anthony Hopkins, Olivia Colman and Imogen Poots.

However, The Father
has not been released on any online platform but is expected to hit the
theaters on February 26.

Nomadland

Directed
by Chloe Zhao and presenting ethereal performance by Frances McDormans, Nomadland
is about a woman’s journey through the American West after losing job during
the recession of 2008. The film has garnered nominations for best director and
actor female as well along with best dramatic film and screenplay categories.

Nomadland
will be available to stream on the platform Hulu from February 19.

The Trial of the Chicago 7

The
Trial of the Chicago 7 perfectly captures the story of an anti-Vietnam War
protestors group who were later pressed with conspiracy charges at the National
Convention in 1968. The Director of the film is Aaron Sorkin, who received nominations
for best director and best screenplay.

Promising
Young Woman

Promising
Young Woman is a dark comedy based on the life of a strong, witty and what
appears to a promising woman Cassie, traumatised by some tragic event of her
past which she re-encounters. Apart from the film, protagonist Carey Mulligan
is also nominated in the category of Best Actress this year.
