The VMAs this year cater to a diverse audience, including Latin music enthusiasts who can anticipate performances by Anitta, Karol G, Peso Pluma, and the already mentioned Shakira. Pop, rock, K-pop, and country fans can also look forward to captivating acts by Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, Måneskin, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and Kelsea Ballerini.

In a testament to the global reach of music, eight of the featured performers hail from outside the United States. This stands in contrast to the inaugural VMAs in 1984, which primarily showcased American and British artists.

The pre-show, hosted by Saweetie, will run for 90 minutes, featuring contributions from Nessa, Dometi Pongo, and Kevan Kenney. It will air live from 6:30 to 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, CMT, and Logo.

Shakira’s recognition as the Video Vanguard Award recipient marks a historic moment, as she becomes the first South American artist to receive this accolade. Recent years have seen a dominance of women in this category, with Shakira following in the footsteps of Rihanna, P!nk, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliott, and Nicki Minaj.

Diddy, honored with the Global Icon Award, joins the ranks of Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers in receiving this prestigious recognition.
