The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enters its phase four with ‘The Eternals‘. The film is based on a race of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years and now reunite to battle the evil Deviants. It is set to release on November 5 in the United States.

‘The Eternals’ were on the sidelines when Thanos wiped out half of all living creatures in the universe in the ‘Avengers: Endgame’. They did not show up in the climactic battle, where the Avengers brought everyone back and defeated Thanos and his forces.

However, with the Avengers and the phase three of the MCU gone, the Eternals will take over. Now, there might be confusion with where this immortal alien race is placed on the timeline.

Here we explain:

The Eternals are called upon to regroup in the present when the planet comes under threat from their twisted counterparts, the Deviants.

Eternals, created by celestials, came to earth around 7000 years ago to protect the planet and humans from their counterparts – the Deviants.

According to the official synopsis for Eternals and confirmed by Sprite’s reference to Iron Man and Captain America in the trailer, the Eternals are called to action following Hulk’s snap, which brought back half of the world’s population during Infinity War and caused a surge of energy that causes an “Emergence.”

Due to the five-year time jump between Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, all of the Disney+ shows released so far actually take place in 2023, but the return of the Deviants in Eternals will actually happen in the summer of 2024.
