Aparna Shewakramani is a Houston-based lawyer who was cast in Season 1 of the popular Netflix show Indian Matchmaking. The 35-year-old Aparna worked closely with Mumbai-based matchmaker Sima Taparia to find a suitable match. Shewakramani moved from India at the age of seven with her sister and single mother. They grew up in Bellaire, Texas. She studied at the Rice University and graduated with a degree in law from Vanderbilt Law University.

Apart from being a lawyer, she is also an author. Her book She’s Unlikeable and Other Lies That Bring Women Down tells the story of why she went on that show and how she felt when they depicted her as the antagonist. She says that the book also tells the story of her growing up as a South Asian woman in the United States, traveling all over the world, discovering her talents and ambitions, and her continuing search for a partner, according to an interview published in moneycontrol.com.

After earning recognition from the show she switched from being a lawyer to an entrepreneur. She drifted from her corporate job because it was her dream to settle in New York City after living close to three decades in Texas. Aparna Shewakramani is an avid traveler and also runs a travel company, My Golden Balloon. She started this venture in 2019. MGB caters to luxury tours for small groups of travelers.

In the initial season of the show Indian Matchmaking she was paired with Jay Wadhani but she drifted from all her promises to him. She was also in contact with Dilip Aidasani and Shekar Jayaraman after the filming of the show but things didn’t develop further. Aparna Shewakramani will be reappearing in Season 2 of Indian Matchmaking.
