Baltazar Lemos posted a notice of his passing on social media and organized a fake funeral for his loved ones. Lemos staged the prank to see who would turn up, much like the scene in Friends where Ross Geller staged a mock memorial to see which of his old college buddies would attend. The 60-year-old Brazilian, unfortunately, experienced a burial that was just as tragic as the fictional paleontologist’s.

Who is Baltazar Lemos?

Baltazar Lemos is a 60-year-old resident of Curitiba, Paraná. Lemos planned a sinister plan for his fake funeral in advance: a few days before, he had sent out invites widely for a celebration for his 60th birthday, which was scheduled for a few days later.

Lemos sent prayers and good thoughts to everyone in a post on his Facebook page earlier this month that appeared to be an innocent picture of him. However, it appeared from the picture that he had been admitted to Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital.

A day later, a new post appeared stating that he had passed away. ‘‘At the beginning of this sad afternoon, Baltazar Lemos left us. More information coming soon,’  the social media statement stated.

Reactions from Family and Friends

Soon after the Brazilian passed away, friends and family assembled at a church in his birthplace of Curitiba to offer their condolences. However, as soon as the event began, Lemos’ voice began blasting out from the speakers, recounting his 60 years of existence. The man then barged through the alter doors and confronted his friends and relatives. This left all those in attendance in shock and confusion. The audience who had been grieving his demise was now enraged and blamed Lemos for cruelty, which didn’t seem to be the outcome Lemos had anticipated from the phony memorial.

‘I had no intention of hurting, offending, or causing any harm to anyone,’ Lemos stated. He also apologized for his antics. ‘I didn’t tell anyone, because I hoped it would work out. I had no intention of hurting, offending or causing any harm to anyone. I truly apologize to these people.’
