Who is Ellie in The Last of Us?

Ellie Williams was born in the spring of 2019 after the Cordyceps
brain infection had spread across the United States. Her mother was a nurse
named Anna, but her father’s identity is unknown. Her mother died during
childbirth. Anna endowed Ellie’s care to her best friend Marlene before her
death. Ellie, on the other hand, did not meet Marlene until she was 13 years old.

Ellie was raised as an orphan in an authoritarian military
containment area in Boston, Massachusetts (where she met her best friend Riley
Abel) with little understanding of the outside world prior to the epidemic.

Ellie was fourteen when she was afflicted with the Cordyceps brain
disease. However, she soon found out that she was immune to it. Marlene thought
she was the key to reverse designing a vaccine. Marlene assigned a smuggler,
Joel Miller, to accompany Ellie outside the QZ. The simple drop-off turned into
a year-long adventure across America, and the two developed close bonding
during the tumultuous times.
