On November 29, 2002, the first anniversary of George Harrison’s passing, The Concert for George was staged at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Recently, the event celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The event was organised by Olivia Harrison and Dhani Harrison, his son. Eric Clapton served as the event’s musical director. The earnings from the event were donated to Harrison’s newly established Material World Charitable Foundation.

George Harrison was an English musician and singer-songwriter who rose to prominence around the world as the Beatles’ main guitarist.

Who is George Harrison’s son Dhani Harrison?

Dhani Harrison is an English musician, composer, and singer-songwriter. He was born on August 1, 1978, in Windsor, Berkshire.  He grew up with his parents in Henley-on-Thames and attended Dolphin School near Twyford, a Montessori method school, followed by Badgemore Primary School. 

He later enrolled in the Combined Cadet Force where he had shown a strong passion in rowing. 

Harrison graduated from Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in physics and industrial design.

Before opting to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a professional musician, Harrison attempted a career as a car designer at McLaren Automotive.

Musical Career 

Harrison helped his father record music at home, which later appeared on the Brainwashed album. He developed his performance and production skills during this process. Harrison worked with Jeff Lynne to finish his father’s final album, Brainwashed, after his death in 2001. The album was released in 2002 and the song Marwa Blues went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004. One year after his father’s death, Harrison took part in the Concert for George.

In 2004 Harrison appeared onstage with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Prince and others for a performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps during his father’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In March 2006, Harrison made a guest appearance on Liam Lynch’s Podcast Video Variety Show, Lynchland.  

In August 2010, Dhani Harrison, Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur joined to form Fistful of Mercy and in 2013, Harrison was also selected as the face of Gap’s fall global campaign, entitled Back To Blue.

Harrison performed his first-ever solo performance at the New York City’s Panorama Festival in 2017. His debut album as a solo artist, was released in October 2017. 

He supported Jeff Lynne’s ELO on tour in 2019 and frequently sang the vocals on the Traveling Wilburys song.

Apart from being singer, Harrison is a also music composer. Harrison and Paul Hicks worked together as a team to for the 2013 movie Beautiful Creatures. They provided the music for the television series The Divide and the movie Learning to Drive in 2014. They continued to score the WGN TV show Outsiders in 2016 and wrote music for the Amazon Video television series Good Girls Revolt.

More recently, Harrison collaborated with Paul Hicks to compose music for the 2020 RZA film Cut Throat City as well as the four-part HBO documentary series The Case Against Adnan Syed. He also composed and recorded the theme song for the Netflix original series Dogs.
