Jeanine Tesori is now a two-time Tony Award winner, having won Best Score alongside her Kimberly Akimbo colleague David Lindsay-Abaire. Tesori received her first Tony Award win in 2015 for her music for the Tony-winning musical Fun Home. She has been nominated for a total of six Tony Awards.

Jeanine Tesori is an American composer and musical theater artist. She was born on November 10, 1961, in Port Washington, New York. Tesori is known for her work as a composer and lyricist for numerous stage musicals, particularly in the realm of contemporary American theater.

Tesori’s notable works include ‘Violet’, which received critical acclaim and multiple Tony Award nominations; ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, for which she received the Tony Award for Best Original Score; ‘Caroline, or Change, a collaboration with playwright Tony Kushner; and ‘Fun Home’, based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir, which earned Tesori the Tony Award for Best Original Score.

By winning the Tony Award for Best Musical, ‘Fun Home’ made history as the first musical with an all-female writing team.

Jeanine Tesori has also composed for film and television in addition to her work in the theatre. She worked on the music for the DreamWorks animated picture ‘Shrek’, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. She also contributed to the score of the Disney animated film ‘The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea’.
