Michael Lee Aday, popularly known as Meat Loaf, passed away on 20th January 2022. He was a legendary American singer and actor, noted for his powerful voice and theatrical live shows, and had a worldwide fan base for his rock music.

The singer’s ‘Bat Out of Hell’ trilogy has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide. The first album, even after four decades of its release, sells an estimated two lakh copies annually and has stayed on the charts for over nine years. It is, till date, considered to be one of the best selling albums in history. Meat Loaf is one of the best selling artists of all time with around 80 million records sold worldwide.

Like many artists, he did experience difficulty in establishing a steady career with the United States but that didn’t stop him from becoming the best selling singers of all time. He has earned a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the song ‘I’d do anything for love’. Apart from this, his success was also majorly influenced by his popularity in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom, where he received the 1994 Brit Award for best selling album. He ranks 23rd for the number of weeks spent on US charts and 96th on VH1’s ‘Greatest Artists of Hard Rock’.

Michael Lee Aday has also appeared in over fifty movies and television shows. Sometimes he appeared as himself and sometimes he appeared as characters resembling his stage persona. His most notable film roles include Eddie in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)’, Bob Paulson in ‘Fight Club (1997)’, fual roles in the original cast of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, Dennis in ‘Spice World (1997)’ and many more.

The Grammy winner died Thursday night, with his wife Deborah by his side. His daughters Pearl and Amanda also had a chance to say their goodbyes in the last 24 hours. Though the cause of his death hasn’t been released, Meat Loaf’s family has released a statement appreciating the love and support of his fans.
