Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp, who plays the closeted gay teenager Will Byers, has come out as gay himself. The 18-year-old made the announcement on Thursday on Tiktok with a video of himself and wrote, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was we know.”

In the video posted, Schnapp is lip-syncing to an audio clip from a different TikTok of someone saying, “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, will never be that serious.”

“I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” the actor wrote in the caption.

Who is Noah Schnapp?

Noah Schnapp is a Canadian-American actor. He is known for playing Wills Byers opposite Winona Ryder in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. The series was nominated for various awards in 2016 and 2017, including a Golden Globe for Best Drama Television Series, a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (winner), and an MTV Movie & TV Award for Show of the Year (winner).

Schnapp was born on October 3, 2004, in New York City. He was raised outside of the city in the town of Scarsdale. Schnapp’s father is of Russian Jewish descent and his mother is of Moroccan Jewish ancestry. He has a twin sister. He holds Canadian citizenship as his parents are from Montreal, Quebec, Canada

In 2021, he founded a sustainability and snacking-focused company named To Be Honest (TBH).
