Pinocchio 2022 is an American musical fantasy film that is a
live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s 1940 animated film Pinocchio. The film
is all set to release on Disney Plus on September 8. Directed by Robert
Zemeckis, the film stars Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo and Giuseppe Battiston among
others. The filming of Pinocchio 2022 was conducted in Cardington Film Studios, England. 

The film is based on the Italian author, humorist and
journalist Carlo Collodi’s fairy tale novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, published
in 1883. Carlo Collodi was the pen name of Carlo Lorenzini (1826 to 1890) of
Florence, Tuscany.

Who is Pinocchio?

Pinocchio is a fictional character from Collodi’s novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio. He was sculpted by Geppetto, a poor, lonely woodcarver
from a Tuscan village. Pinocchio, though a wooden puppet, dreamt of turning
into a real-life boy. He is referred to as a cultural icon and one of the most
popular characters in children’s literature. 

Though the character has been adapted and interpreted in a
number of discourses, there are certain characteristic features of Pinocchio
that remain constant vis-a-vis the elongation of the nose as a consequence of
lying, the fact that he is a creation of Geppetto, and that he is a puppet.
Collodi described him as a ‘rascal’, ‘imp’, ‘disgrace’ ‘confirmed rogue’ and so
on and so forth. In the tale, evn Geppetto is seen to address him as a
‘wretched boy’. However, by the end of the novel, he becomes a real-life boy by
the Good Fairy, after he learns to care for his father Geppetto.

In the book, Pinocchio is depicted with a pointy hat, a
jacket, and a pair of colored, knee-length pants.

Some scholars of literature designate Pinocchio as an epic
hero. He descends to hell because of the troubles that he got himself into.
However, he encounters rebirth through metamorphosis. The morals that are
derived from the novel are to work, be good, and study.

The fans and followers of the story are eagerly waiting
for Pinocchio 2022, where it is likely that the plot of the tale would be based
on the classical structure.
