Barbara Waite was murdered by her son Ryan Grantham in 2020. She was 64 years old. 

Grantham, who featured in the CW show Riverdale and Diary of the Wimpy Kid, has been sentenced to life in prison, as per a statement by the BC Prosecution Services in British Columbia, Canada. Apart from life in prison, the court has also handed a lifetime firearm ban. 

Grantham pled guilty to second-degree murder in March 2022. As per reports, prosecutors said that the shot Waite at the back of her head. He reportedly made a video of himself confessing to the murder of his mother.

Who was Barbara Anne Waite?

Barbara Anne Waite was born on October 24, 1955. She was Ryan Grantham’s mother. The 64-year-old, as per her obituary published by memorials.squamishfuneralchapel.com, had a daughter named Lisa. 

Waite was an American citizen.

She was a long-time Squamish resident and loved adventuring, especially cross-country skiing, biking and hiking, her obituary further adds. She had a strong passion for animals and her pets adored her. 

“As a dear sister, she was a best friend, guiding light and moral compass. Her quick wit and vivid imagination filled our lives with fun and laughter. Barbie was a loving daughter who devoted much of her time to her parents. She was a strong advocate for her mother’s care and always kept her best interests at heart. Barbie’s mom treasured her companionship,” her obituary reads.

Grantham’s attorney, after the sentece, told E! News that he has received a lot of psychological assistance after being arrested.

“He’s received a lot of psychological assistance and he has struggled with what he’s done and facing that but he hopes to be able to dedicate the rest of his life to making amends,” Johnson said in a statement.
