Riverdale‘ will return to The CW for a seventh and final season, the network announced. This was part of the broadcaster’s 2022 fall schedule release, which notes that the last instalment will air midseason in 2023.

The Archies adaptation was renewed for its seventh outing back in March, along with other series on the network, including ‘The Flash,’ ‘All American,’ ‘Kung Fu,’ and ‘Walker.’ Now, it has joined a slew of shows that the network recently axed, including ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, which was scrapped after seven seasons, ‘Dynasty’ which has been taken off after five seasons, and ‘Legacies’ which is going off-air after four seasons.

When ‘Riverdale’ debuted, it became a major hit for The CW. As per the network’s standards, the show garnered solid ratings, but its popularity exploded once ‘Riverdale’ became available on Netflix. To date, the series has aired 100 episodes.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa developed the series for television, based on the timeless comics that see Archie, Betty, and Veronica’s adventures in the fictional town of Riverdale. However, The CW series heightened expectations and took the show down a darker route where the residents of Riverdale deal with drug violence, murders, and vigilante killers. The central characters cope with heavy themes and high school drama at the same time.
