Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu’s mother, Indira Devi, died in the early hours of Wednesday in Hyderabad due to ill health. She was reportedly 70 years old.

For the past few days, Indira Devi – who was also the wife of veteran actor Krishna – had been suffering from age-related health issues. She was admitted to AIG Hospital in Hyderabad, according to media reports.

“Her mortal remains will be kept at Padmalaya Studios for fans to visit at 9 am today and later the last rites will be performed at Maha Prasthanam,” read a statement from Mahesh Babu’s family.

Indira Devi celebrated her last birthday on April 20. Her entire family had assembled to celebrate her birthday in one place. Mahesh Babu, his wife Namratha, and their children Goutham and Sithara were all present for the celebration, along with her husband Krishna, sister Manjula, and others.

Indira Devi got married to veteran actor Krishna in 1961. The couple had five children together – Mahesh Babu, Ramesh Babu, Manjula Ghattamaneni, Priyadarshini Ghattamaneni, Padmavathi Ghattamaneni. Priyadarshini is married to actor-producer Sudheer Babu.

Her son Ramesh Babu, who was an Indian actor and film producer, died on January 8, 2022. Ramesh Babu made his on screen debut with the film Alluri Seetharama Raju in 1974. He acted in over 15 films before retiring from acting in 1997. Ramesh Babu had been battling liver-related issues few months before his death.

Indira Devi and Krishna separated after the latter married Vijaya Nirmala. Indira Devi had been staying single since then. Her son Mahesh and other family members met her frequently at her residence, Telugu 360 reported. Krishna met Vijaya Nirmala on the sets of Saakshi (1967). He worked with his wife in over 40 films.
