Louise Fletcher, the Oscar-winning American actress, made headlines on Friday, September 23, when she died at the age of 88. Fletcher is regarded widely for her role in Milos Forman’s 1975 comedy-drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest but has acted in numerous top films in her career.
The actress died at her home in Montdurausse, France, on September 23, 2022. In her long career, she has received numerous accolades including the Academy Award, BAFTA Award and the Golden Globe. She is survived by her sons John Dashiell Bick and Andrew Wilson Bick.

Who was Louise Fletcher?
Fletcher was born on July 22, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama, the United States to Reverend Robert Capers Fletcher and Estelle Fletcher. Both her father and mother were deaf and worked with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. She had three siblings, Roberta, John and Georgianna, among whom she was the second oldest.
Her earliest appearance in acting was when she began acting in television soap operas, including the 1959 series Lawman and Maverick (1959). Fletcher was also part of the original Untouchables series featuring Robert Stack, as well as Ma Barker and Her Boys and The Case of the Mythical Monkeys.

She acted in the 1974 film Thieves Like Us, which was also directed and produced by her ex-husband Robert Altman. Fletcher later went on to act in Milos Forman’s 1995 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which truly brought her under the limelight. The film also helped her to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe and the BAFTA Award.
She went on to act in the 1977 film Exorcist II: The Heretic, The Cheap Detective in 1978, The Magician of Lublin in 1979, Firestarter in 1984, Blue Steel in 1990 and Cruel Intentions in 1999. Fletcher also acted in the popular TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, along with others.
