Takeoff, a rapper who was a part of the hip-hop group Migos, was reportedly shot and killed last night, October 31, 2022 in Houston, Texas

Who was Takeoff?

Born on June 18, 1994, Kirshnik Khari Ball was an American rapper better known as Takeoff. He was best known for being a member of the hip-hop band Migos with his uncle Quavo and first cousin Offset. 

He was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia in Gwinnett County. He, along with fellow Migos members Quavo and Offset, was raised by his mother in Lawrenceville.

Takeoff started rapping in 2008. Migos began performing under the stage name Polo Club before changing their name.

On August 25, 2011, the group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season. On June 1, 2012, they released the mixtape No Label.

Culture, Migos’ second studio album, was released on January 27, 2017, and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 131,000 album-equivalent units, including 44,000 copies sold, in its first week. In July 2017, the album was certified platinum in the United States.

Culture II, the group’s second album, was released on January 26, 2018. It was Migos’ second number one album on the Billboard 200, selling 199,000 equivalent units, including 38,000 copies sold, in its first week.

The rap group and 12 members of their entourage were arrested in 2015 for marijuana and other controlled substance possession, firearms possession within a school safety zone, firearms possession during the commission of a crime, and firearms possession by convicted criminals.

Takeoff was listed as the culprit in a civil action brought by a female victim on claims of “sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and interference with civil rights” at a June 2020 party in Los Angeles on August 5, 2020.

It was reported on April 2, 2021 that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office would not file criminal charges against Takeoff owing to a lack of evidence. The judicial proceedings in the civil suit are still ongoing.

Takeoff was shot dead on October 31, 2022 in Houstan, Texas.
