Actor and talk-show host Whoopi Goldberg announced on her show, The View, that she is quitting Twitter, which, she said has become a “mess” since Tesla CEO and the world’s richest man Elon Musk acquired the company.

The 66-year-old, who is among the few people to receive the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) Awards, said on the show, “I’m getting off today because I just feel like it’s so messy, and I’m tired of now having certain kinds of attitudes blocked now getting back on. So I’m gonna get out, and if it settles down enough and I feel more comfortable maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter.”

Her announcement comes in the wake of Twitter firing a number of employees and Musk saying that this step had to be taken because the company was losing around $4 million per day. Comedian Kathy Griffin has now been banned from the platform for using her account to parody Elon Musk.

Sunny Hostin, who co-hosts The View alongside Goldberg, also agreed with the latter, and said that Twitter has become a “hellscape” since Musk took charge.

Hostin said, “I follow legal scholars there, I follow SCOTUS blog, I follow thought leaders, and it’s such a good place for that,” further adding, “And now you’ve got this Elon Musk turning it into something it was never intended to be. He says it’s going to be ‘the public square.’ Well, I don’t want to be part of that public square but I also don’t want to miss the valuable information that can be put on there.”

The show’s other host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, said that she shares a “love-hate relationship with Twitter,” but admitted that it has become a “hellscape”. Another host of The View, Ana Navarro, said that the United States should follow the European Union and keep a watch on social media platforms just like the FCC regulates what can be put on television or other media. She said such a step is imperative for Twitter since it “has far more reach and is far more dangerous”.
