Charles Spencer, the younger brother of Princess Diana, has stated that he will not be attending the coronation of King Charles III, which is set to take place on May 6. During a recent appearance on the Off Air… with Jane and Fi podcast, Spencer was asked whether he planned to attend the event, to which he responded, “I wouldn’t have thought so — I think it’s only about 2,000 people going.”

Spencer went on to express his disinterest in the “whole royal thing”, stating that he thinks about Diana every day but that the monarchy is only a small part of his life. “People obviously assume that I care a lot about that side of things, but it’s just a side part of my life,” he said.

Spencer also clarified that he has never had an official role in the coronation, despite his peerage title, and that he will not be wearing any coronets during the event. “There is some old coronet knocking around somewhere, but I won’t be wearing it soon, I don’t think,” he said.

The coronation of King Charles III is set to be a historic event, with only 2,000 guests allowed to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions. While some members of the royal family, including Prince Harry, are expected to attend, others, such as Meghan Markle, will not be present. Despite the limited guest list, the coronation is expected to be a grand affair, with a procession through the streets of London and a celebratory concert at Buckingham Palace.

For now, it seems that Charles Spencer will be sitting out the event, but his decision has not dampened the excitement surrounding the coronation. As the world waits for the historic event to take place, it remains to be seen which members of the royal family and other notable guests will be in attendance.
