The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest will be held at Nathan’s Famous restaurant in Coney Island on the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues, after changing locations the previous two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual Fourth of July celebration has become a tradition, with some impressive performances on the festive holiday.
For the first time, ESPN “Sports Center” anchor John Anderson will provide live play-by-play coverage of the holiday competition, along with in-depth analysis from Major League Eating’s chairman Richard Shea.

The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place Monday, with the women’s competition being held at 8:15 pm IST and the men’s competition taking place at 9:30 pm IST.

According to Nathan’s Famous, the first recorded Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest was held in 1972 at the original Coney Island location.
Since then, the competition has taken place nearly every year, commonly on Independence Day. Major League Eating officially sanctioned it in 1997.
What is the prize money for winners?
The purse for last year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest was $40,000, with $10,000 going to the winners, $5,000 going to second place, $2,500 going to third place, $1,500 going to fourth place, and $1,000 going to fifth place. It’s unclear whether the prize money will be the same this year.
