Food is an art, love language and certainly a way to cook up some of the best culinary innovations. The year 2021 witnessed quite a few food trends and innovations, with some instantly becoming a mass favourite, and some being banished by the foodies forever.

1. Fire Panipuri– Rising to fame after an Ahmedabad based food blogger posted a viral reel of gulping it down, the fire panipuri began a social media storm with its fire-water element composition.

2.  Vada Croissant- Replacing the popular vada pao of Maharashtra, a restaurant decided to replace the pao with the famous French croissant, giving taste testers a France-meets-Mumbai palate.

3.  Maggi Panipuri- Just when you thought panipuri couldn’t get any worse, some food experimentalist decided to mix instant noodles brand Maggi with the street food favourite. After these food debacles, it’s safe to say that some food items are best enjoyed 6 feet apart from each other.

4.  Edible flowers- Unlike the above-mentioned questionable food items, edible flowers were a sophisticated food trend of 2021. Chefs now top their dishes with tiny colourful flowers that give a picturesque aesthetic to your regular lunch. Milkshakes and pastas are now often topped with fruits. Although it’s important to keep in mind that some flowers are just safe to look at, not to gulp down.

5.   Ferrero Rocher Manchurian- Probably taking the number one spot in bad ideas, this dish consists of sweet chocolate balls dipped in spicy Manchurian gravy. The quirky dish amassed a lots of gaping eyes and horrified reactions on social media. Fairly enough, it is a combination you can definitely ditch. 

6.   Air fried food- The year saw a rise in supply of air fryers, a popular appliance that uses relatively less oil to cook French fries, chicken and homemade chips. The appliance is now a kitchen-essential in many households.
