Greece on Sunday reported the death of its youngest COVID-19 victim, a 37-day-old baby. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took to Twitter and wrote, “Sadly today we had the pandemic’s youngest victim in our country, an infant that spent 17 of its 37 days fighting the coronavirus.” He added, “Today, grief is unbearable.”
The health ministry said that the baby boy died on Sunday, he was brought to a children hospital in Athens. The baby was suffering from nasal inflammation and fever and was placed in intensive care a day later.

Around 6,800 people have succumbed to the virus in Greece while nearly 480 people have been admitted in intensive care units. The health ministry added that it was calling for additional private hospital resources as the public health system was under “unbearable pressure”.
Opposition has accused Mitsotakis’ government of failing to stop the spread of the virus despite a lockdown imposed in November, 2020. Officials have also blamed the high rate of infection on the new virus variant which started spreading from Britain.

Common man is also not happy with the government and recently there were reports of police brutally beating a man during a lockdown patrol on Sunday.
