Ten states in India account for 85% of all COVID-19 cases in
the country, the Union health ministry said on Saturday, PTI reported. The ministry
also said that 11 states accounted for over one lakh COVID-19 cases whereas
eight had cases ranging between 50,000 and one lakh.
It further noted that 24 states had a COVID-19 positivity
rate of more than 24%.
The 11 states in question cumulatively accounted for 77.26%
of India’s total active cases, with Karnataka leading the list, followed by Maharashtra,
Kerala, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal,
Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Also on Saturday, India’s daily COVID-19 recovery outnumbered
new COVID-19 cases for the fourth time in fifth days.
Number of new cases recorded on Saturday throughout the last
24 hours was 3,26,098, whereas number of people who recovered from COVID-19 in
the same time period was 3,53,299, as per health ministry data.
Maharashtra recorded the largest recovery numbers, followed
by Karnataka (35,879), Kerala (31,319), Uttar Pradesh (26,179), Tamil Nadu
(20,037), Andhra Pradesh (19,177), West Bengal (19,131), Gujarat (15,365),
Haryana (14,577) and Delhi (14,140).

India recorded 3,26,098 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours that took
the tally to 2,43,72,907, whereas 3,890 new fatalities pushed the death toll to
2,66,207, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
The active cases have reduced to 36,73,802 and comprise
15.07 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery
rate has improved to 83.83 per cent, it stated.
