Andhra Pradesh crossed the two lakh mark of COVID-19 cases with over 10,000 fresh infections recorded for the third day in a row on Friday, August 5. The state government also said that more than 89 deaths were recorded in Andhra Pradesh on the same day. The state recorded a total of 10,171 cases on Friday and had conducted 62,938 tests on the same day.
The state also has one of the highest Reproduction rates (R-value) of coronavirus at 1.48 well above the national average of 1.16. The R-value is the number of people getting infected by an already infected person on an average.
Condition in the southern state of India quickly deteriorated in the month of July with the state recording more than 10,000 cases on July 29. Andhra Pradesh had 15,252 coronavirus cases on July 1 however the number swelled to the current level as every district in the state witnessed a severe surge in the spread of the disease.
The state crossed the 50,000 cases threshold on July 20 and breached the 1,00,000 caseload on July 27. The state reached the 2,00,000 coronavirus case mark on August 7.
The state government claims to have tested over 23,62,270 samples with a positivity rate of 8.76%.
Some of the worst affected districts in the state are- East Godavari which has a total of 28,850 coronavirus cases, likewise Anantapur, Guntur, Kurnool have all recorded more than 20,000 cases. East Godavari currently has the most number of active cases, while the district of Kurnool has witnessed most COVID-19 related deaths with 228 people dying from the disease.
The state had recorded its first coronavirus case on March 12, 2020, while the first death in the state was recorded on April 9.
