Amid growing security safety concerns of Covaxin, whose clinical efficacy data is yet not made public, pharma company Bharat Biotech on Tuesday issued a fact sheet on the COVID-19 vaccine, advising pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with fever or bleeding disorders not to take the jab.

The fact sheet by Bharat Biotech comes as nearly 580 adverse reactions after immunisation against COVID-19 have been reported in India in three days since the nation kicked off its mass vaccination programme, the world’s largest, on Saturday. Two people have died after receiving the shots, which are reportedly unrelated to the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Bharat Biotech, you should not take Covaxin if:

– You have a history of allergies or high fever

– You have a bleeding disorder or are on a blood thinner

– You are pregnant or breastfeeding

– Your immune is compromised or you are on a medicine that affects your immune system

– You have received another COVID-19 vaccine

– You have any other serious health-related issues “as determined by the vaccinator/ Officer supervising vaccination”

Bharat Biotech, in its fact sheet, asked people to inform the vaccinator or a supervising official if they have any above mentioned medical condition before receiving the jab.

The fact sheet, posted on Bharat Biotech’s website, said that as the clinical efficacy of the phase 3 trial of Covaxin is yet to published, it is important that one should follow COVID-19 precautions even though they have received the vaccine shot.
