Although their quarterback Jack Coan suffered a leg injury in the third quarter, Notre Dame Fighting Irish trounced the Wisconsin Badgers 41-13 on Saturday to extend their winning streak to four.

This was the first meeting between both the teams since 1964, and the first when both are ranked.

The game had an intriguing backdrop with Notre Dame quarterback Coan playing against his old teammates. Coan left the Badgers last year after Graham Mertz was named the starter.

However, the senior transfer from Wisconsin went to the medical tent on the sideline, and then after trying to make a warm-up throw walked slowly toward the tunnel with a member of the Notre Dame staff.

“This is complete dominance by Notre Dame,” a user of Twitter opined. He further added: “It was 17-13 to begin the fourth quarter. The final is 41-13 after this pick-6 by Drew White as #12 Notre Dame defeats #18 Wisconsin. Brian Kelly passes Knute Rockne for most wins as Notre Dame head coach.”

Meanwhile, a user pointed out: “Believe it or not, Notre Dame was once losing this game. In the fourth quarter, too.”

The initial phases of the game were nervy as both teams missed chances in plenty. A user wrote: “Watching this Wisconsin Notre Dame game feels a lot like watching my friends at the bar, everybody wants to score but nobody knows how”

“This Wisconsin offense is brutal to watch. Still blown away they were nearly a touchdown favorite over Notre Dame by kickoff. Made zero sense,” another fan wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Mertz is yet to live up to the lofty expectations that came with him being ranked as the best pocket passer coming out of high school in 2019.

The 20-year-old QB had another tough outing tonight. He is yet to register even a single TD pass in his last six starts, including tonight’s game.

“Graham Mertz hasn’t thrown a TD pass since November 21? Today is his sixth start since then,” a user on Twitter posted.

Another user quipped: “Graham Mertz could really use a GPS to find his way back to anything resembling quality quarterback play.”
